Recently on Face Book, I joined a group, Mercury, Gemini, & Saturn / Apollo, Program Era!! It is full of historical pictures and videos.
While watching some of those videos of the Apollo close ups of the Moon, looking at details for my new book Beneath the New Moon, I spied another with a title that didn’t fit the Face Book page. Not unexpected as Face Book uses some complicated formula to link sites that are related in some way.
The title was The Lies NASA Has Told This Week. If you are, as I am a fan of the Space Program and a Science Fiction Writer, you cannot see such a title and not click the link.
I had always thought it was a joke born of a fantasy from the distant past, used to make fun of people who are willfully ignorant of all things modern. Alas there are a host of people who still believe and espouse to the point of attempted conversion, the idea that the Earth is flat.
Yep, I did say Flat Earth. As in a table top, an old record, a CD. FLAT. There are websites devoted to it, and videos on YouTube. They are serious about it too, with hand drawn maps and animation showing how the Sun and Moon orbit over head, and the stars are lights in floor of Heaven.
But the real fun is the message boards on each “Proof” the Earth is flat. Someone will post why the poof is not correct, and the fun begins. For example; “For starters, I don't know it all, nobody does, we are in new territory of inquiry and discovery. Also, to one off all FE theory because it doesn't jive with your calculations is naive and single minded. The best of us are only using 14% of our brain, so to "know i'm right" is absurd, IMHO>
I'm not sure I understand what you are "proving" here with your math. FE theory, only a theory, has the Sun and Moon on a concentric track around Flat Earth where the Sun would be in Asia at our nighttime. So you are saying we should be able to see the Sun when it is nighttime in the U.S. and daytime in Asia because the angle height of the Sun is so low?”
If you want to know the web address and have a laugh, email me or ask in the comment section. For now, I don’t want to seem as though I am promoting the site other than as pure entertainment.
