The shooting should have never happened.
But, it did.It should never happen again.
But, it will.
We as a nation are not interested in solutions. Cold. Hard. But factual. Worse, there are those we have elected that are more interested in the power of the issue, than the power of the solution. And our children will pay with their lives and blood for that interest. We the voters, have sold our souls to the person who promises us the most free things.
Nothing is free, but that subject will have to wait.
The funerals had not yet started, the investigation was still in the planning stages, but the media was already blaming everyone and everything except the shooter and the complete lack of enforcing the laws we already have in place.
The kids stood up and said enough. Well, some did, most were along for the 15 minutes of fame and were as some say “Sock Puppets” for the media. So, once again the informed students, the ones that should be heard were drowned out.
Some of those students took the “walkout” as an excuse to vandalize and cause more violence. Sad to say, when I posted that, I was told “Vilifying children is pretty pitiful behavior. Pathetic really. Ultimately, an adult who does this must be TERRIFIED of these kids.”
Without meaning to I am sure, this lady put her finger squarely on the problem. We as a nation are unwilling to hold those that break our laws accountable and attack those adults and law-abiding-citizens who are willing to do the hard job. We are coddling our ill-behaved kids, and then are shocked when they feel free to act out and kill. Worse, we make excuses for them after they have proved they will kill.
The parents, guardians, school teachers and school administration missed the signs, or worse yet, ignored them. The police too, when warned did nothing. But, Florida passed some new laws, so, they count themselves heard, smile a lot and think the problem solved. Well, they thought the same thing after Sandy Hook too, and the one before that, and one before that.
What good is a new law, when we are not the enforcing the laws we have? Why in the Name of God would anyone think a new law will change anything when we in general ignore the ones we have?
If we are serious about protecting our children, the quickest, easiest, and cheapest solution is to simply enforce the laws we have. We could do it today, right now.
I have been informed my thinking is limited.
Some facts here link. I know the information is dated. The report is old, but I have not found newer data, nor any data that says the basic facts do not now apply. In fact, those that say my thinking is limited have not challenged the facts in the link.
This finding is particularly alarming;
Finding #4 – Federal laws designed to keep guns out of the hands of kids and away from schools are almost never enforced.
• From 2000 to 2002, youths age 17 and under committed an estimated 93,000 violent gun crimes, yet between FY2000 and FY2002, federal prosecutors brought only 24 cases for illegally selling firearms to a minor.
• Prosecutors in 38 states did not file a single charge for selling firearms to a minor during this time period.
• The number of federal prosecutions for illegally selling to minors went from 7 in 2000 to 10 in 2001 and back to 7 in 2002.
• In the 1999-2000 school year, 2,837 students were caught with a gun in school, yet between FY2000 and FY2002, federal prosecutors filed only 40 cases against those who brought a gun onto school property.
• The number of federal prosecutions for illegally bringing a gun to school went from 11 in 2000 to 17 in 2001 and back to 12 in 2002.
