We bought some show tickets online and had to pick them up at the Branson Visitor’s Center. While there, the lady behind the counter asked us if we wanted to attend Wyndham Vacations sales pitch, “It is only 2 hours in the morning, no obligation, and we’ll pay you to go.” We declined and they upped the ante, when the payment reached the amount of what the shows cost, we folded.
The pitch was basic. The price of a vacation on average doubles every decade. “So, to avoid this problem buy a plan form us for one payment of x amount of $$ and get x number of points per year for life. You can even borrow against the next year’s points.”
Sounds nice, right.
Well, just try to say not interested. You don’t get paid for attending until they give you a receipt saying you attended, so they hold all the cards.
We were there 5 hours, it got heated in the end and sales guy was rude and unprofessional.
Later, after we escaped and got our money for attending, and I started to calm down, I got a case of what I call “Delayed Intelligence.”
The fact that the presenter pointed out of the cost doubling each decade is unassailable. But, a fact he left out is that it matters not what the “Coin of the Realm” is, inflation is going to kick in. Pay a one-time sum in American dollars, British Pounds or Thai Bhat for X points each year for the rest of your life, but at some point, X points to pay for the same trip is going to be X+ points. There is no way the points of today can be exchanged for the same goods and services10 years from now. You are either going to have buy more points or cut back your travel.
I think I’d like to go back and be paid for attending the presentation again. Bet, I would be asked to leave before the first part of the presentation ended.
